Become a Coliazul Supporting Friend.

Coliazul is a children’s learning space in San Salvador de Barú, dedicated to bridging cultures and providing holistic education for future generations. Coliazul is built by the parents and neighbours of this valley. It began in August 2023, and since January 2024 the children’s program has run five days a week, in Spanish and English, on a curriculum inspired by Waldorf education.

Our families pay for it themselves. What they contribute covers the heart of it: the teaching. Your gift covers everything around it, and lets us give the children more than the essentials.

💛 What your support does 💛

✅ Keeps the room – Casa Coliazul, where the program lives.
✅ Brings specialist teachers consistently – ecology, permaculture, movement, theatre
✅ Takes the children into growing experiences – community projects, museums, national parks,
the country beyond the valley they know
✅ Gets them the materials to uplevel their learning and creativity
✅ Brings artists and musicians to our community gatherings
✅ Makes room for more children – including the possibility of a new group for younger children

💪🏼 What we have built together 💪🏼

Since January 2024 the children have arrived five days a week, term after term. Along the way we have woven a circle of community teachers, opened Casa Coliazul and the Coliazul Library, planted trees for the Barú watershed alongside Community Carbon Trees, and filled the valley with festivals, including a bilingual theatre production that played to full
audiences over five performances.

And the Cultural Center

The Coliazul Cultural Center moves forward on a parallel track, together with the Diamante Bridge Collective, land agreements in place, site preparations and architectural blueprints done, and funds being raised for the coming build phases.

This page does not fund that construction. It sustains the children, the teachers and the culture that will one day fill it. More about the Cultural Center →

More than one way to belong

Give · Come to an event · Teach a skill · Send books or supplies · Tell a friend

Most of our support arrives because someone explained us to someone else.
